adjacency

Through this project, there was an exploration between the relationship of the enclosure of inside and outside spaces. Upon further research into enclosure, we learned about the larger scale and how the walls of a room provide enclosure where objects such as furniture and occupants have varying degrees of adjacency. Just like this, this scaffold and structure model also has varying degrees of adjacency. As the assignments progressed, this particular project gave us the opportunity to explore the images we have collected from the words in bold and apply these images to context where they reveal forms, patterns and textures to represent the selected word using any paper material.

collage

A collage is a path to image-making that builds upon a collection of views. Through these hydrocal section cuts, the development of sets of relationships could be seen through the arrangement of the cut sections in the collage. The collage provides an opportunity to discover new spatial conditions that result from the juxtaposition of these profiles and the cut lines in the hydrocal forms represent a shared plane.

Once the developing relationship between two different pieces were complete to produce two collages, the next process was to explore more complex relationships between the pieces. The pieces were developed in a logical yet organizing manner that also took use of overlapping different pieces, since this allowed freedom. As further developing the collages, the notation of dashed lines started to appear to represent which blocks have been pulled apart or rotated from one position to another. Colour was added to further express detail.

scaffold & structure

Scaffold + Structure implies a structure that utilizes a set of building elements in order to support another structure. In this assignment, I have selected my collage from assignment 2 to use as a road map that can be interpreted as a plan to organize the hydro- cal forms into the scaffold structure. The framework that I have established supports the forms of the relationship between the interior and exterior, that acts as a vessel to the hydrocal pieces. The grid inherent to scaffolding and provides a framework to develop a spatial relationship with the hydrocal forms.

This scaffold & structure uses a set of many building elements that support each other as a whole. The selected collage from previously, has been utilized as a road map for the general base and guideline, acting as a plan for the scaffold structure to organize the hydrocal pieces on top of.
